Top U.S Admiral reaffirms support for Sri Lanka’s regional security role during meeting with President
Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (21) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
According to reports, the discussion centred on reinforcing bilateral relations and Sri Lanka’s vital role in maintaining security across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
During the meeting, Admiral Paparo extended his congratulations to President Dissanayake and his newly formed Government, commending their proposed initiatives.
The Admiral praised Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to ensure a secure and peaceful maritime environment in the Indian Ocean.
Admiral Paparo also reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to bolstering the longstanding partnership between the two countries, expressing support for the policy direction of Sri Lanka’s new administration.
In response, President Dissanayake expressed gratitude for the United States’ contributions to strengthening human resources within Sri Lanka’s defence sector. He highlighted the value of the sustained support provided by the U.S. over the years, underscoring its importance to the nation’s security framework.
The meeting saw the participation of several key figures, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung, Lieutenant Colonel Anthony C. Nelson of the U.S. Army, and Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the United States Indo-Pacific Command David Ranz.
Admiral Paparo’s visit, spanning 19 to 21 March, underscores the United States’ commitment to deepening security cooperation with Sri Lanka.(THE MORNING LK NEWS)
