Sri Lanka urges Canada to prevent activities that promote separatist ideologies in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has urged the Canadian Government to prevent activities that promote separatist ideologies in Sri Lanka, including the recognition of the LTTE insignia and activities aimed at fostering divisions among the ethnic communities in Sri Lanka.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath raised these concerns during a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner Isabelle Catherine Martin today.
“It was conveyed that these actvities by localised groups in Canada run against action taken by the government to ensure national unity,” the Minister said in a post on X.
He said the High Commissioner stated that the LTTE remains a banned organisation in Canada and that the Canadian federal government does not recognise such insignia associated with the LTTE or separatist ideologies.
“She conveyed that Canada remains committed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka,” he said.(DAILY MIRROR LK NEWS)
