BREAKING: Scientists just founnd signs of life on another planet

For the first time, researchers using the James Webb Space Telescope have detected what they’re calling the strongest evidence yet of life beyond our solar system – on a planet 124 light-years away.
The planet, K2-18 b, is a “Hycean world” – a type of exoplanet believed to have a deep ocean and a hydrogen-rich atmosphere. What’s remarkable is what Webb found in that atmosphere: chemical fingerprints of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) – gases that, here on Earth, are produced almost exclusively by life, particularly marine microorganisms like phytoplankton.
No one is claiming alien life just yet, but these gases are considered potential biosignatures, signs of biological processes that scientists have long hoped to detect.
K2-18 b orbits in its star’s habitable zone, where liquid water can exist, and previous observations have already detected methane and carbon dioxide in its atmosphere. Combined, the data paints a tantalizing picture: a distant ocean world with the right ingredients – and now, maybe even the right chemistry – for life.
“This is a transformational moment,” said lead researcher Nikku Madhusudhan of the University of Cambridge. “We’ve entered the era of observational astrobiology.”
Cautious optimism is key. More observations are needed. But if confirmed, this could be a massive leap forward in the age-old question: Are we alone in the universe?
