South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 102 runs

South Africa made a loud announcement of their entry into the ICC World Cup 2023 as they convincingly defeated Sri Lanka by 102 runs. The Proteas scored the highest-ever run in the ICC World Cup 2023- 428 and during the chase Sri Lanka was all-out on 326.

Aiden Markram smashed the fastest World Cup century off just 49 balls, while Quinton De Kock and Rassie van der Dussen also made punishing hundreds as South Africa sounded early warning with a mammoth 428 for 5 against Sri Lanka.

In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 326 runs.

Sri Lankan openers started the 429-run chase slow as Marco Jansen took out Pathum Nissanka early. Kusal Mendis came in an explosive form and smashed back to back sixes against Kusal Mendis. Kusal Perara was also dismissed by Marco Jansen and currently Sadeera Samarawickrama is supporting Kusal Mendis.

Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka played in a partnership to make some runs, but Lungi Ngidi took out Charith Asalanka. Sri Lanka is struggling chasing a high target against South Africa.
