Another council near the capital’s border has approved a measure against the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s planned expansion of the city’s ultra low emission zone (ULEZ). An Essex authority has said it will not allow ULEZ signs to be put up in its area.
This comes after yesterday (Friday, July 28) saw a major political victory for Mr Khan as the High Court ruled that he can legally go ahead with his enlargement of the scheme after five outer London Boroughs and Surrey County Council lost their legal challenge. He confirmed minutes afterwards that he would be enacting the policy on August 29, meaning that drivers of non-compliant vehicles in all London boroughs would be subject to a £12.50 daily charge.
But, Conservative controlled Thurrock Council, which borders Havering in Greater London, has now said Transport for London (TfL) will not be allowed to place signs for the zone in its borough. Hertfordshire County Council also warned that ULEZ signs and cameras would not be allowed within the county’s borders, should the zone be expanded as planned in August.
